Snow forecast to begin in early morning in Central Va.; VDOT crews report for storm duty

CULPEPER — Yet another winter storm is forecast to bring snow to Central Virginia on Saturday and the Virginia Department of Transportation urges residents to keep a close eye on the weather and road conditions. This weather system is not expected to leave significant accumulations, but the combination of snow and near-freezing temperatures may make some roads slick during the storm.

The Virginia Department of Transportation’s Culpeper District is prepared for the storm. Trucks were rigged with plows and loaded with sand and salt today; crews will report for duty at midnight. VDOT’s goal is to make all roads passable within 48 hours after the storm ends.

Those planning to travel on Saturday should check the weather and road conditions before they leave. This storm is predicted affect a large swath of northern and western Virginia, and conditions may vary widely across the region. VDOT advises drivers to know the road conditions along their route and at their destination and plan their trip accordingly.

VDOT’s 511 travel website,, is updated in real time with weather and road conditions for all highways in Virginia.
