CONDITION IMPROVING ON CENTRAL VA. HIGHWAYS
VDOT crews will continue treating roads today, overnight

CULPEPER — Snow-removal efforts by the Virginia Department of Transportation are being aided today by the sun and warmer pavement temperatures. Road conditions have improved across Central Virginia as snow and ice melts and evaporates, and most highways are now reported to be clear with isolated slick spots.

VDOT crews will remain on duty through this evening and overnight to continue treating roads, with their focus turning to secondary routes, which are numbered 600 and above.

Due to the frigid temperatures plowed roads are likely to refreeze overnight. Motorists are cautioned to check local weather and road conditions before traveling. Reduce speeds when driving in slick conditions, increase following distance and allow plenty of travel time.

Motorists should check VDOT’s 511 travel website, www.511virginia.org, before leaving on a trip. The website is updated in real time with weather and road conditions for all highways in Virginia. Once on the road VDOT’s 511 mobile app provides real-time traffic and weather information for both iPhone and Android platforms. Travelers can also call 511 from any telephone in Virginia for real-time information on traffic and road conditions.
