VDOT PREPARES FOR ANOTHER WINTER STORM
Crews to report at midnight; motorists should monitor conditions, expect slick roads Saturday

CULPEPER — The Virginia Department of Transportation is preparing for a winter storm that is forecast to affect Central Virginia early Saturday morning. Drivers may face changing road conditions with snow predicted to fall through the morning before changing to sleet and possibly freezing rain before ending Saturday afternoon.

VDOT crews have applied brine on Interstate 64, I-66, Route 29 and several other primary highways today in advance of the storm. Crews are also preparing plow trucks and other equipment. VDOT will have plows on the roads beginning at midnight tonight and crews will work around the clock until roads are passable.

Residents are encouraged to monitor local weather forecasts and complete non-essential travel before the storm. Those who must travel Saturday morning should expect to encounter slick road conditions and drive with caution. Allow plenty of time to reach your destination, reduce speed and maintain a wide distance between vehicles.

Motorists should check VDOT’s 511 travel website, www.511virginia.org, before leaving on a trip. The website is updated in real time with weather and road conditions for all highways in Virginia. Once on the road VDOT’s 511 mobile app provides real-time traffic and weather information for both iPhone and Android platforms. Travelers can also call 511 from any telephone in Virginia for real-time information on traffic and road conditions.
