Utility work to occur in advance of Tinpot Run bridge replacement this spring

CULPEPER — The Virginia Department of Transportation will close Route 655 (Tinpot Run Lane) in Fauquier County Feb. 4-7 for utility work.

During the closure Dominion Virginia Power will relocate its existing facilities to prepare for the Tinpot Run bridge replacement project. The road will be closed to through traffic at Tinpot Run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, weather permitting.

Detour signs will be placed near the work zone and motorists should use the posted detour.

General Excavation Inc., with a low bid of $2,313,177.80, was awarded the construction contract for the Tinpot Run bridge project on Jan. 25. Construction activities are scheduled to begin this spring with completion in early 2014. The project involves replacing the existing bridge, built in 1960, with a pre-stressed concrete structure that includes a shared-use path for pedestrians and bicyclists. The project will also realign the intersection of Routes 655 and 1201 (Lucky Hill Road) to improve safety.
