RT. 649 IN ALBEMARLE OPEN TO THROUGH TRAFFIC
Debris removal completed from Rivanna River bridge pier
CULPEPER – Route 649 (Proffit Road) in Albemarle County opened to through traffic this morning. On Monday the road was closed to through traffic at the Rivanna River bridge while a crew from the Virginia Department of Transportation removed storm debris lodged against the bridge pier.
Heavy equipment was used to remove the debris, which included large trees, limbs and other material that washed downstream and lodged against the bridge during this summer’s heavy rains. The material accumulated on the upstream side of the pier made the bridge and approaches more vulnerable to flooding when the Rivanna River rises during future storms.
