RT. 649 (PROFFIT ROAD) BRIDGE TO CLOSE MARCH 19-21
Debris removal necessary following recent flooding

CULPEPER — Next week the Virginia Department of Transportation will close the Route 649 (Proffit Road) bridge over the Rivanna River to remove storm debris.

The bridge, located approximately 0.6 mile from Route 20 (Stony Point Road), will be closed March 19-21.

VDOT crews will use heavy equipment to remove debris that washed against the bridge during heavy rains in late January. The presence of debris makes the structure vulnerable to flooding in the event of another storm.

Signs will be posted to detour motorists from Route 20 (Stony Point Road) to Route 600 (Watts Passage Road) to Route 29 (Seminole Trail) and reverse.

For more information about Virginia’s bridges and VDOT’s bridge inspection program, including current conditions of the state’s bridges, FAQs and video of a bridge inspection, visit VDOT’s web site, http://www.virginiadot.org/info/Bridge.asp.
