RT. 634 IN GREENE CO. REOPENS TO THROUGH TRAFFIC
Low-water bridge over Swift Run replaced with box culvert
CULPEPER – Route 634 (Mutton Hollow Road) in Greene County has reopened to through traffic following replacement of a low-water structure over Swift Run with a concrete box culvert. The project was completed and the road reopened on Thursday evening, three days ahead of schedule.
The new box culvert will address issues caused by frequent flooding across Route 634 that cut off access to residential properties in the area. Along with installation of the box culvert the project also made improvements to the roadway approaches on both sides of the river crossing.
The construction work was done by Plecker Construction Co., of Staunton, which was awarded a $299,888.49 contract for the project. The road was closed on June 6 and was scheduled to reopen to traffic on Sept. 1, the project’s fixed completion date.
