CONTRACTOR BEGINS RT. 229 ROUNDABOUT CONSTRUCTION
Lane closures, other traffic impacts will start in mid-December

CULPEPER – Construction of the roundabout at the intersection of Route 15/29 Business (James Madison Highway) and Route 229 (North Main Street) in the Town of Culpeper will begin this week. General Excavation Inc., of Warrenton, the contractor for the $3.3 million project, plans to mobilize equipment and install signs for traffic control.

Motorists will experience traffic restrictions in mid-December when actual construction work begins. The first phase of the project involves replacement of a storm sewer pipe along Route 229 near the current intersection. That work will involve daily lane closures between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

More information about the Route 15/29/229 roundabout project can be found on the Virginia Department of Transportation’s web site, www.virginiadot.org/projects/culpeper/rt_229_intersection.asp. The project page will be updated and additional traffic alerts will be distributed with information about traffic impacts as construction continues. The project is scheduled for completion Aug. 1, 2015.
