TRUCKS TEMPORARILY BANNED FROM TWO SHADWELL ROADS
Truck traffic should use Interstate 64 detour to avoid Route 250 bridge closure

CULPEPER — Beginning Wednesday, the Virginia Department of Transportation will place a temporary restriction on truck traffic on Route 731 (Keswick Road) and Route 744 (Hacktown Road) in Albemarle County.

The restriction is due to safety concerns over trucks using the two secondary roads to shortcut the prescribed Shadwell bridge detour route onto Interstate 64. Routes 731 and 744 are narrow neighborhood roads not designed to handle large volumes of heavy vehicle traffic.

VDOT will install “No Through Trucks” signs along both routes on Wednesday. The restriction will remain in place until the Route 250 Shadwell bridge project is completed in early July.

Restoration of the bridge, which includes the complete replacement of the bridge deck, requires Route 250 to be closed to traffic through July 9. During the closure, vehicles are being detoured onto I-64 between Exit 129 (Route 616/Black Cat Road) and Exit 124 (Shadwell).

More information can be found on the Route 250 Bridge at Shadwell project page.
