RT. 784 BRIDGE IN ALBEMARLE CO. WILL CLOSE SEPT. 24
Project will replace superstructure on bridge over Turkey Run Creek

CULPEPER — On Sept. 24 the Virginia Department of Transportation will close the bridge over Turkey Run Creek on Route 784 (Doctors Crossing) in Albemarle County for replacement of its superstructure. Route 784 will be closed to through traffic at the bridge.

The bridge, located approximately 1.5 miles from Route 600 (Watts Passage Road), dates to approximately 1932 and is structurally deficient. The bridge is posted with a 13-ton weight limit due to its deteriorated condition. According to 2011 traffic data approximately 130 vehicles use the bridge daily.

During the closure VDOT crews will replace the existing timber deck and steel beams with a new deck made of precast concrete slabs. The new bridge will carry all legal loads. The work is expected to be complete and the road reopened to traffic on Oct. 4.

While Route 784 is closed at Turkey Run Creek access will be maintained to all properties on both sides of the river. Motorists should follow the posted detour route using Route 600 (Watts Passage Road), Route 20 (Stony Point Road) and Route 640 (Gilbert Station Road).
