RT. 637 IN IVY TO CLOSE FOR TWO WEEKS FOR BRIDGE WORK
Replacement of bridge over Ivy Creek will begin August 27

CULPEPER — Over the next two weeks, the Virginia Department of Transportation will replace the Route 637 (Dick Woods Road) bridge over Ivy Creek in Albemarle County. Work will begin Monday, Aug. 27, at 7 a.m., and will require the temporary closure of Route 637.

The bridge, located a half-mile south of Route 250 (Ivy Road), was built in 1932 and is structurally deficient. The bridge was posted with a three-ton load limit on Aug. 15 due to its deteriorated condition.

VDOT’s work involves replacing the existing timber deck and steel beams with a new deck and galvanized beams. The new bridge will carry all legal loads.

During the two-week closure, southbound motorists should follow the posted detour route: Route 637 north to Route 250 eastbound, then south on Route 677 (Bloomfield Road) and back to Route 637. Northbound motorists will reverse the detour.
