OVERNIGHT TRAFFIC SHIFTS TO OCCUR ON RT. 15/29 AT OPAL
Lane closures on Sept. 5 and 6 will allow for erection of bridge beams
CULPEPER — Next week, the Virginia Department of Transportation will shift traffic on Route 15/29 for two nights in order to perform bridge work associated with the Opal interchange project in Fauquier County.
The work involves installing concrete bridge beams on the flyover ramp that will carry traffic over Route 15/29 and onto Route 17 southbound.
At 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5, Shirley Contracting Co., LLC, a contractor for VDOT, will close Route 15/29 northbound to erect beams on the east half of the bridge. Northbound traffic will be detoured to use one lane of the southbound side of Route 15/29.
The following evening at 9 p.m., the contractor will close the southbound side of Route 15/29 to erect the beams on the bridge’s western half. Southbound traffic will be detoured to use one lane of Route 15/29 northbound.
The traffic shifts will remain in place until 5 a.m. the following day, with Virginia State Police on-site to assist with traffic control.
Real-time road conditions and weather forecasts are available on VDOT’s traffic and travel Web site, www.511Virginia.org. The site also has live traffic camera images for many major highways, including Interstate 64, I-66 and Routes 29 and 250 in Central Virginia.
