VDOT SEEKS PUBLIC COMMENT ON CULPEPER PROJECT
Design hearing set Aug. 10 for Route 29-666 interchange proposal

CULPEPER — On Wednesday, August 10 the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will host a design public hearing on the plan to build an interchange at Route 29 and Route 666 in Culpeper County.

The public hearing will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at Eastern View High School, 16332 Cyclone Way, Culpeper, VA 22701. The school is adjacent to the location of the planned interchange.

VDOT proposes to replace the existing at-grade intersection of Routes 29 and 666 with a diamond interchange to improve safety and capacity. The project will include raising Route 666 to an overhead crossing of Route 29 and widening the roadway to four lanes divided by a 28-foot raised median. Bike lanes will be added on both sides of the road, as well as a five-foot-wide sidewalk on the south side and a 10-foot-wide shared use path on the north side.

The project’s estimated cost is $28.63 million and is subject to change as the project’s design is developed. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2013.

Project plans and environmental documents, as well as right of way and easement information, will be available for review at the public hearing, and  at VDOT’s Culpeper District Office located at 1601 Orange Road, Culpeper, VA 22701, 540-829-7500, or 1-800-FOR-ROAD (367-7623). Please call ahead to ensure that personnel are available to answer your questions.

VDOT staff will be available at the hearing to discuss the projects and answer questions. Written and oral comments will be taken at the hearing. Written comments can also be submitted by mail to 1601 Orange Road, Culpeper, VA 22701, to the attention of Barry Jones, Project Manager; or by email to Barry.Jones@VDOT.Virginia.gov. Please include “Route 29-666 Interchange Comment” in the subject line of the email. The deadline for public comments is August 22, 2011.
