One-day closure will allow for replacement of bridge over Rush River

CULPEPER — The bridge over the Rush River on Route 624 (Sunnyside Orchard Road) in Rappahannock County will be closed on August 16, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., for its replacement.

The bridge is located near the intersection of Routes 624 and 622 (Harris Hollow Road). Both roads will be closed at this intersection during the work period. Motorists are advised to use an alternate route during the work period in order to avoid delays.

A crew from the Virginia Department of Transportation will remove the old deck and beams and replace them with a new timber deck and galvanized steel beams. The existing bridge has a 10-ton posted limit, which means that some emergency vehicles are not able to cross it. Once completed, the new bridge will be capable of carrying all legal loads.

Real-time road conditions and weather forecasts are available on VDOT’s traffic and travel website, The site also has live traffic camera images for many major highways, including Interstate 64, I-66 and Routes 29 and 250 in Central Virginia. Motorists can call 511 from any telephone in Virginia for road and traffic conditions on all major highways in the state.
