BRIDGE WORK ON I-64 TO CLOSE RIGHT LANE, EXIT TO RT. 29 SOUTH
Work will restrict traffic beginning Thursday; motorists should expect delays, congestion
CULPEPER — Beginning Thursday, the lane closure on Interstate 64 westbound at exit 118 in Charlottesville will be switched to the right lane, also closing exit 118A (Route 29 South).
A detour will be posted on I-64 west to direct affected motorists to exit 114 (Ivy), where they will exit and re-enter I-64 headed eastbound to access the Route 29 South exit.
The closure is needed while a contractor for the Virginia Department of Transportation performs maintenance work on the I-64 bridge over Route 29. The first phase of the project, begun on June 1, closed the left lane of I-64 westbound and is now complete. The right lane closure is expected to last an additional 10 days.
Burleigh Construction Co., Inc., is carrying out the $793,927 project, which will rehabilitate the bridge’s deck to extend its life. The work includes patching deteriorated areas, overlaying the deck with a latex sealant, and replacing the bridge joints.
Motorists should follow the work zone signs and anticipate delays, particularly during high-volume periods.
