WORK TO BEGIN JUNE 28 ON WARRENTON INTERSECTION
Project will improve traffic flow at Route 29 Business, Route 17 Business
CULPEPER — Improvements to the intersection of Route 29 Business and Route 17 Business in the town of Warrenton will begin on Monday, June 28.
A contractor for the Virginia Department of Transportation will build left-turn lanes on the southern and western approaches to the intersection. The improvements will more efficiently move traffic through the intersection, which handles almost 6,000 vehicles per day. That number is expected to increase to 8,400 by 2032. The work will be done within the existing right of way.
To minimize the effect of the work on traffic using the busy intersection much of the work will be done during off-peak traffic hours and at night. Short-term lane closures may be necessary and motorists should be alert for signs advising of changes to the traffic patterns and detour routes.
The project is being built by Arthur Construction Co. of Dulles. The $507,551 contract has a completion date of Sept. 30, 2010.
