Tinpot Run Lane project will also include intersection improvements at Route 1201

CULPEPER — The Virginia Department of Transportation will hold a public hearing on its proposed replacement of the bridge over Tinpot Run on Route 655 (Tinpot Run Lane) east of Remington in Fauquier County.

The hearing will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 29 at the Remington Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department, 200 E. Marshall St., Remington, VA 22734. The public can stop by the hearing anytime between 5 and 7 p.m. to review the plans and discuss the project with VDOT representatives.

The proposed project will replace the steel beam, timber deck bridge over Tinpot Run with a structure built to current design standards. The current bridge, which was built in 1960, is in overall poor condition and is posted for a 13-ton weight limit.

The new bridge will have 14-foot-wide travel lanes that will be wide enough to accommodate bicycles. A sidewalk will also be included on the north side of the bridge. The project will also realign the intersection of Route 655 and Route 1201 to improve safety at that location. Curb and gutter will be added along Route 655 through the project limits.

The project is estimated to cost $3.6 million, including engineering, right of way acquisition and utility relocation, and construction. The current schedule calls for right of way and utility work to begin in the fall of 2011, advertisement for construction bids in the winter of 2012 and work to begin in the spring of 2013.

The project will require additional right of way and plans will be available at the public hearing to show the limits of the project as proposed. VDOT engineering and right of way staff will be available at the hearing to explain the project and answer questions. Plans for the project may also be reviewed at VDOT’s Culpeper District office, 1601 Orange Road, in Culpeper. Information about the project is available on VDOT’s website at:

Written and oral comments will be accepted at the public hearing. Written comments submitted through Aug. 9 will also be considered and made part of the official record of the hearing. After the hearing written comments should be sent to:
