ROUTE 729 IN ALBEMARLE TO CLOSE AUG. 18
Through traffic must use alternate routes during replacement of deteriorated pipes

CULPEPER — The Virginia Department of Transportation will close Route 729 (Milton Road) to through traffic between Route 53 and Route 250 on Tuesday, Aug. 18. The closure is necessary to replace two large pipes that carry a small stream under the road. The road will remain open to local traffic on both sides of the project, approximately 1.1 mile north of Route 53.

The two 60-inch corrugated steel pipes were inspected on Tuesday, Aug. 11 and found to be severely deteriorated and in need of immediate replacement. The work is expected to be finished and the road reopened to through traffic by Friday, Aug. 21.

Message boards will be placed on nearby roads to alert motorists to the upcoming road closure. Motorists who use Route 729 are advised to consider using several alternate routes:
• From Route 53 onto Route 732 (Milton Road) at Simeon Store, then left onto Route 729 (North Milton Road) to Route 250
• From Lake Monticello, take Route 600 (South Boston Road) then left onto Route 616 (Union Mills Road) to Route 250

Highway safety is everyone’s responsibility. Virginia’s highway safety partnership — the Virginia Department of Transportation, Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles and Virginia State Police — challenges you to help prevent highway fatalities. Buckle up. Avoid distractions. Share the road. Drive drug- and alcohol-free. Obey speed limits.  For more information on the Highway Safety Challenge and things you can do to avoid becoming Virginia’s next traffic fatality, visit www.safeVAhighways.org.
