BRISTOL— With snow falling in many areas of southwest Virginia, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) advises motorists to postpone unnecessary travel. Snow plows are out clearing highways throughout the region, focusing their efforts on main roads.
VDOT crews in southwestern Virginia are reporting the following road conditions as of 4 a.m.:
- Interstates 81 and 77 are snow-covered and slick
- The majority of roads in Tazewell, Washington, Scott, Smyth, Bland, Grayson and Wythe counties are snow-covered and slick
- The majority of highways in Dickenson, Lee, Wise, Russell and Buchanan counties have scattered snow and ice patches.
The Bristol District includes the counties of Bland, Wythe, Tazewell, Grayson, Smyth, Russell, Buchanan, Washington, Wise, Dickenson, Lee and Scott counties.
Travelers can get real-time information on road conditions, traffic incidents and congestion on Virginia roads by using VDOT’s 511 free mobile app or the www.511Virginia.org website and phone system, which can help travelers plan their routes accordingly.(END)
