Transportation career fair for high school students scheduled for October 1
"Bridging Bristol's Today and Tomorrow"
BRISTOL – The Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) Bristol District is hosting its first transportation career fair for high school students this fall, offering area high school students a wide variety of information regarding careers in transportation.
The fair will be October 1 from 9 a.m. until noon at Southwest Higher Education Center, located at One Partnership Circle in Abingdon.
The fair will provide students information about transportation-related fields such as civil engineering, accounting, emergency response, architecture, technology, construction, environmental engineering and other transportation and construction-related disciplines.
“As more opportunities for highway, transit, rail and airport projects come available in southwestern Virginia and around the state, we want to ensure a future workforce is being developed for our industry,” Randy Hamilton, P.E., VDOT Bristol District Engineer, said.
In addition to inviting students to attend the fair, VDOT also extends an invitation to transportation-related organizations and firms to exhibit at the event. Participation is free and firms will have the opportunity to meet local VDOT leadership and decision-makers.
Transportation related firms should contact Melissa Anderson at firstname.lastname@example.org or (804) 651-4463 to learn more and register. High school groups should register with Dr. Wendell Point at email@example.com or (540) 847-8935. Deadline for registration for schools and transportation firms is September 15.
The Bristol District consists of 12 counties in southwestern Virginia: Washington, Smyth, Lee, Scott, Russell, Buchanan, Tazewell, Bland, Wise, Dickenson, Grayson, and Wythe.
