Section of Interstate 81 paving project wins statewide award

VDOT Bristol District Engineer Randy Hamilton, P.E., Construction Manager David Lamie, Area Construction Engineer Todd Repass, P.E., and Assistant District Administrator for Construction Rob Griffith, P.E., display the 2014 Virginia Asphalt Association's paving award for the superior paving of a section of I-81.

RICHMOND, Va. – The Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) Construction Team recently received the Virginia Asphalt Association’s statewide paving award for the best maintenance paving project in 2014.

W-L Construction and Paving, Inc., Chilhowie, share the award with VDOT for their superior paving of Interstate 81 between mile marker 25 and 26.72 in Washington County.  Supervising the paving project were A. Morton Thomas Inspector Bobby Wolfe, VDOT Construction Manager David Lamie and VDOT Area Construction Engineer Todd Repass, P.E.

The quality awards program was developed to recognize superior quality in road construction and maintenance paving.  Winning projects are selected on the basis of workmanship, ride smoothness, skid resistance, and quality of materials.
