Information meeting scheduled for Route 676 (Azure Lane) roadway improvement project in Washington Co.
Review of May 7 public hearing comments bring design, scope of work changes

BRISTOL - The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will hold an information meeting to show updated plans for Route 676 (Azure Lane) improvements in Washington County.   Comments VDOT received at a May 7 public hearing for Azure Lane resulted in the proposed changes.

The information meeting will be held Tuesday, November 17 from 5 – 7 p.m. at Watauga Elementary School, 23181 Watauga Road, Abingdon, Virginia 24211.

The purpose of the meeting is to give citizens an opportunity to informally review and discuss design and scope of work changes for a proposed roadway improvement project along Azure Lane that now includes paving, minor widening work and minor drainage improvements for the entire route.

“The plans presented at the May public hearing were to improve less than a half-mile of Azure Lane,” Jeremy Mullins, VDOT Location and Design Project Manager, said. “Property owners showed great interest in lessening the scope of work as well as donating right of way to pave the entire route instead of just improving a smaller portion of the route.  We took those comments to heart and want to share an update with the public.”

VDOT encourages all interested citizens to attend the information meeting. To give citizens more flexibility in their participation, there will be no formal presentation. Instead, citizens will be able to review revised plans with VDOT representatives at their convenience anytime between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Additionally, VDOT staff will be available to discuss and secure right of way donations.

Maps and other materials pertaining to the project are available for review at the VDOT Bristol District Office, 870 Bonham Road, Bristol, Virginia.  For additional information, or if you require special assistance to participate in the meeting, please call the VDOT District Office at (276) 669-6151 or device for hearing impaired (TTY) at 711.
