Route 224 (Scott Co.) safety improvement project completed

BRISTOL, Va. - A safety improvement project along 3.43 miles of Route 224 (Wadlow Gap Road) in Scott County was recently completed on-time and under budget.  The $2.6 million project adds beneficial safety improvements to the heavily used roadway located between Gate City, Virginia and Kingsport, Tenn.

The project began in early July and included intersection warning devices at Route 704 and added a turn lane onto Route 58.

The project also included the addition of two lanes for .43 mile near the intersection of Route 58; widening and paving of shoulders; installation of rumble strips; and upgrading guardrail and pavement markings.

A second project for Route 224 is in the works.  Preliminary plans are being developed for a curve widening project near the bridge over the North Fork Holston River.  A design public hearing is tentatively scheduled for January 2015.
