Highway projects valued at $2.4 million awarded for southwestern Virginia

RICHMOND – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) recently awarded four contracts valued at approximately $2.4 million for the Bristol District.  The Bristol District consists of 12 counties in southwestern Virginia:  Washington, Smyth, Lee, Scott, Russell, Buchanan, Tazewell, Bland, Wise, Dickenson, Grayson, and Wythe.

Two contracts were awarded to Slurry Pavers, Inc., Glen Allen, Va.,: 

  • A $909,752 contract to apply slurry seal to various routes in Lee, Dickenson, Russell and Wise counties.  This technique is used to extend the life of the pavement.
  • A $460,176 contract for latex paving on various routes in Lee County.

Cleco Corporation, Rosedale, received a $542,880 contract to improve a section of Route 747 in Tazewell County, from 0.34 mile west of Route 734 to Route 734.

Lastly, a $488,108 contract was awarded to W-L Construction & Paving, Inc., Chilhowie to improve about a mile of Route 616 in Buchanan County, from 2.5 miles east of Route 719 to 3.4 miles east of Route 719.  The work includes grading, making drainage improvements and paving the 0.90 mile section of Route 719.
