Highway projects valued at $3 million awarded for southwestern Virginia

RICHMOND – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) recently awarded five contracts valued at approximately $3 million for the Bristol District.  The Bristol District consists of 12 counties in southwestern Virginia:  Washington, Smyth, Lee, Scott, Russell, Buchanan, Tazewell, Bland, Wise, Dickenson, Grayson, and Wythe.

A $1.2 million contract was awarded to Elk Knob, Inc., Pennington Gap, to improve a 1.5-mile section of Route 643 in Tazewell County, from Route 651 to Route 655.

W-L Construction & Paving, Inc., Chilhowie, received a $1.2 million contract to pave shoulders and add rumble strips to the north and southbound lanes of Route 23 in Wise County between Routes 624 and 692 at Indian Creek Mountain.

C.L. Dale Construction Services, LLC, Lebanon, was awarded three contracts:

  • A $235,722 contract to improve a section of Route 723 (Airport Road) in Wise County, from 0.121 mile south of Route 791 to Route 791.

  • A 140,918 contract to widen a portion of Route 91 in Washington County, from 0.11 mile south of the intersection of Route 736 to Route 736.

  • A 115,528 contract to widen shoulders and improve sight distance on a section of Route 628 in Russell County, from 0.467 mile east of the Wise County line to 0.693 mile east of the Wise County line.
