Transportation board approves two contracts valued at $2 million

RICHMOND – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) recently awarded two highway contracts valued at approximately $2 million for the Bristol District.  The Bristol District consists of 12 counties in southwestern Virginia:  Washington, Smyth, Lee, Scott, Russell, Buchanan, Tazewell, Bland, Wise, Dickenson, Grayson, and Wythe.

W-L Construction & Paving, Inc., Chilhowie, was awarded the following contracts:

  • A $1.8 million contract to pave various ramps, deceleration and acceleration lanes along Interstate 81 between Exits 10 and 84 in Washington and Wythe counties.

  •  A $409,413 contract to pave the shoulders and install rumble strips on Route 71 in Scott County between Routes 613 and 928.
