Transportation board approves contracts valued at $3.4 million

RICHMOND – Seven highway contracts valued at approximately $3.4 million were recently awarded in the Bristol District of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).  The Bristol District consists of 12 counties in southwestern Virginia: Washington, Smyth, Lee, Scott, Russell, Buchanan, Tazewell, Bland, Wise, Dickenson, Grayson, and Wythe.

A paving contract valued at approximately $1.1 million was awarded to W-L Construction and Paving, Inc., Chilhowie, to pave on various routes in the 12-county Bristol District. 

Mac Construction, Inc., Oakwood, received two paving contracts, whose combined value was approximately $1.2 million, to pave on Routes 618, 647 and 671 in Buchanan County and to pave various routes in the 12-county Bristol District.

A $597,760 contract was awarded to Interstate Road Management Corp., Hazleton, Pa., to replace pavement markings on various routes in Buchanan, Lee, Russell, Scott and Tazewell counties. 

Two contracts were awarded to Glass Machinery and Excavation, Inc., Jonesville:  a $249,393 contract to replace the Route 616 bridge over Gaspard Creek in Washington County and a $27,092 pipe replacement project on Route 615 in Grayson County. 

Lastly, Elk Knob, Inc., Pennington Gap, received a $231,953 contract to replace the Route 653 (Mabe Stanley Road) bridge over Dry Fork in Scott County.  The bridge is located about a half-mile west of Route 718 and just under one-mile west of Route 902.
