Kevin Lawson selected for maintenance superintendent post at Speedwell area headquarters

BRISTOL—Kevin Lawson was recently named maintenance superintendent for the Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) Speedwell Area Headquarters. 

Lawson began his career with VDOT in 1993 as an equipment operator in Rocky Gap.  He has also served as a fiscal assistant in Springville and a permit specialist for Tazewell and Bland counties.

In 1995, Lawson became an environmental specialist for Tazewell and Bland counties, later moving into the role of district construction environmental monitor.  Prior to his promotion to superintendent, Lawson was serving as supervisor at the Speedwell area headquarters for approximately one year.   

In his new role Lawson will be responsible for the maintenance of approximately 400 miles of state maintained roadways located in the western portion of Wythe County, including Route 21 from Wytheville to Independence in Grayson County.  

Lawson is a 1987 graduate of Rocky Gap High School.  He graduated from Wytheville Community College in 1989 with an associate’s degree in business management and he also received a bachelor’s degree in business from Bluefield State College in 1991. 

Lawson and his wife, Christi, reside in Rocky Gap with their 10-year-old daughter Alexis.
