Long-term construction zones with concrete barriers and orange barrels will remain in place.

The following are work zones that might pose temporary delays for travelers:

Bristol District

Interstates 77/I-81 overlap: Be alert to the possibility of slowed or stopped traffic in this area of Wythe County due to expected high traffic volumes.

I-77 East River and Big Walker Mountain tunnels: Be alert to delays due to restoration projects at both tunnels. Call the special toll-free phone number, 1-866-7-TUNNEL, to stay informed about travel conditions through the tunnel work zones.

Route 19/460 bridge project: Due to replacement of the southbound bridge near Pounding Mill Quarry, two-way traffic has been diverted to the northbound lanes.

Culpeper District

Route 29 south (Robinson River Bridge in Madison County): The right lane will be closed with barriers due to a bridge rehabilitation project. The speed limit is 45 mph through the work zone.

Interstate 64 (Albemarle County): There will be intermittent single lane closures from 7 p.m. Saturday, July 5, until 9 a.m. Sunday, July 6, for the application of pavement markings on I-64 westbound at the Stockton Creek bridge (milepost 108). The speed limit is 55 mph through the work zone. Both lanes will be open during the rest of the holiday travel period.

I-64, Routes 20 and 53 (south of Charlottesville and in the vicinity of Monticello): Expect congestion and possible road closures the morning of Friday, July 4, due to President Bush’s visit. Follow law enforcement direction for detours, alternate routes and parking areas.

Hampton Roads District

Interstates 64, 264, 464, 564 and 664: There is no scheduled maintenance or construction beginning the evening of Thursday, July 3, through Sunday, July 6.

I-64, 264 and 564 (reversible roadways heading east): The HOV lanes will be open to all traffic beginning the evening of Thursday, July 3, through Monday morning, July 7.

Outer Banks: Motorists traveling to the Outer Banks may want to take I-664 and the Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel to save time and avoid the construction at Battlefield Boulevard in Chesapeake.

Jamestown-Scotland Ferry: The ferry will operate on its normal schedule. The schedule is posted on http://www.virginiadot.org/travel/ferry-jamestown.asp.

Lynchburg District

Route 29 Business (Carter Glass Bridge between Lynchburg and Amherst County): There is an 11-foot-wide 10-inch lane restriction for bridge work.

Route 501 (Suck Creek near Gladys in Campbell County): The highway is reduced to one lane at the bridge, with a temporary signal in use during bridge replacement.

Route 92 (over Staunton River at Charlotte/Halifax county line) and Route 621 (at Amelia/Cumberland county line): These routes are closed indefinitely.

Route 360 (at Banister River in Halifax County): This highway section is restricted to one 12-foot-wide lane. A traffic signal is in use.

Route 360 west (east of Meherrin in Prince Edward County, between intersection of 630 and 628): This highway section is restricted to one 14-foot-wide lane for reconstruction.

Route 460/U.S. Route 15 Business (Farmville): There are 11-foot-wide lanes in either direction during reconstruction.

Route 460 west and U.S. Route 460 west business (at Bush River in Prince Edward County): There are lane closures and 18-foot-wide lanes on both structures during reconstruction.

Northern Virginia District

The Woodrow Wilson Bridge Project: The project spans 7.5 miles on I-95/495 from the Telegraph Road interchange in Virginia, across the bridge, to the Maryland 210 interchange.

There will be no construction-related lane closures on the Virginia side from noon Thursday, July 3, until noon Monday, July 7.

On the Maryland side, there will be no lane closures beginning Thursday, July 3 until 9 p.m. Monday, July 7.

Interstate 395/95 HOV Lanes: There will be no HOV restrictions in place on Friday, July 4. The HOV lanes will be northbound until 2 p.m., and open southbound beginning at 4 p.m.

On Saturday, July 5, HOV lanes will go back to a regular schedule and be open northbound beginning at 4 p.m.

Richmond District

Interstate 295/I-64 flyover (western Henrico County): Expect 11-foot-wide travel lanes and concrete barriers along I-64 east and west between Route 288 (exit 174) and I-295 (exit 177) and along I-295 between the I-64 interchange and just south of Nuckols Road (exit 51). The speed limit has been reduced to 55 mph in this work zone.

Route 460 east/west (Prince George): There will be one lane of travel in each direction between U.S. Route 156 (Prince George Drive) and one mile east of the intersection.

Salem District

Route 58 (Carroll County): The eastbound Route 58 bridge over Little Reed Island Creek is closed. The bridge is near Gardner Mill Road between the west limits of Hillsville and I-77.

Route 58 traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction and shifted into the westbound lanes for about 0.8 mile. The speed limit has been reduced to 35 mph in this work zone.

Plantation Road (Roanoke County): Work is under way to replace the riding surface of the bridge on Plantation Road over Interstate 81 at the Exit 146 interchange. Traffic on the Plantation Road bridge over I-81 is reduced to one lane, and a temporary signal is controlling traffic.

Vehicles wider than 11 feet are not permitted to cross the bridge. The speed limit has been reduced to 25 mph in this work zone.
