Route 29 South in Prince William County to Close Aug. 8-11
First of three weekend detours for bridge at Buckland

Southbound
Route
29 in western Prince William County will be
closed to traffic on three
separate weekends over the next six weeks
while the Virginia Department of
Transportation installs a new deck on
the bridge over Broad Run at Buckland. The
bridge is located about a
half-mile south of Route 15, near the Fauquier County border. Motorists
can expect the detour to add 20
to 30 minutes to their travel time.
Traffic on northbound Route 29 is not
affected by the bridge
work.
The first closure will be from 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8 until 5 a.m. Monday Aug. 11. Weekend detours are also scheduled for Aug. 22-25 and Sept. 5-8.
Detour route for cars: Route 29 South to Route 15 North to Route 55 West to Beverly Mill Road (Route 600) to Route 29.
Detour route for tractor-trailers: Route 29 South to Route 15 North to I-66 West to Route 17 South to Route 29. (The detour for tractor-trailers is longer because they cannot travel two-lane Beverly Mill Road.)
VDOT will re-time traffic signals throughout the corridor to maximize traffic flow, and Prince William County Police and Virginia State Police will be stationed at key intersections to assist with any traffic incidents and keep traffic moving.
The $2.8 million bridge replacement project began in Dec. 2007 and will be completed this fall – much sooner than a traditional bridge project. VDOT is accelerating the project by installing a total of 12 prefabricated concrete deck sections, one per night over three weekends.
Maps of the detour routes are also available on the project Web page.
