VDOT COMPLETES LINTON HALL ROAD WIDENING
Delivered on time, under budget

On time, under budget and in time for the post-Labor Day traffic surge, the Virginia Department of Transportation has completed the widening of Linton Hall Road in Gainesville.

The former two-lane road is now three lanes in each direction from Route 29 to Devlin Road and two lanes in each direction from Devlin Road to Glenkirk Road. The three-mile widening project included building sound walls at three locations and installing traffic signals at four intersections. While the total construction budget for the project was $27.2 million, VDOT has completed the project for $25 million, approximately $2 million under budget.

VDOT has several other projects planned or underway in the traffic-choked Gainesville area. I-66 is being widened to eight lanes from the Route 234 Bypass to Route 29. When completed in 2010, motorists will have an additional HOV lane and regular lane in each direction as well as new ramps at Route 29.

When VDOT completes the Route 28 bridge over Broad Run this winter, motorists will have four lanes on Route 28 from Linton Hall Road connecting to four lanes at the Route 234 bypass.

In addition, land acquisition is underway for the Gainesville Interchange project scheduled to begin in 2013. That project includes building an interchange at Route 29 and Linton Hall Road and bridging Route 29 over the railroad tracks.

A&W Contracting was the contractor for the Linton Hall Road project which began in May 2005.
