SPRINGFIELD PARK AND RIDE LOT OPENS EARLY, EXPANDING COMMUTING OPTIONS

The Virginia Department of Transportation recently partnered with Fairfax County to build the North Backlick Road park and ride lot, providing commuting options to motorists in the Springfield area.

The $2.4 million project includes 261 parking spaces, seven handicapped accessible spaces, 15 bike racks, eight motorcycle spaces and six bicycle lockers.

The lot has a lighted bus shelter, storm water management basin and a landscaping screen.

Fairfax Connector bus routes 310, 331, 332 and 401 service the lot.

It is located along Backlick Road, under the Springfield-Franconia Parkway, opposite the parkway access ramp.

Construction started on the project in early 2007 and was originally projected to open on Dec. 13, but it opened Nov. 15, nearly a month ahead of schedule.
