CONTRACT AWARDED FOR NEABOCO CREEK BRIDGE
The Virginia Department of Transportation recently awarded a contract to Phillips Construction LLC to replace and widen the bridge at Route 1 over Neabsco Creek in Prince William County.
The contract with Phillips was for $18.1 million, which is a combination of federal and state funds.
The 70-year-old bridge is prone to flooding and the decision to replace it was part of a Route 1 Corridor Study.
The new bridge will be 240 feet long and nine feet higher than the existing bridge.
The new bridge will feature four lanes, plus dual turn lanes at the Route 610 and Route 638 intersections.
The project also includes:
In addition to the bridge, the contract includes funds for the re-channeling of Neabsco Creek.
The creek has several bends upstream and downstream from the bridge, which have been the site of debris blockages.
The stream will be re-channeled to mimic natural stream conditions.
The bridge is scheduled to be completed June 12, 2010.
