COMMONWEALTH TRANSPORTATION BOARD ADVANCES FUNDS FOR ATLANTIC BOULEVARD

Richmond – The Commonwealth Transportation Board today approved a resolution that will allow design to begin immediately on building the last section of Atlantic Boulevard in Loudoun County.

Under the agreement, Loudoun County will advance the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) $1 million for preliminary engineering. While VDOT has programmed a total of $20 million to build the four-lane section -- $6 million in FY 2009 and $14 million in FY 2010 – funds were not available until July 2008. The agreement means that design can begin now rather than nine months from now.

The project consists of building four lanes for three-tenths of a mile from Church Road to Magnolia Road. It is the final section of Atlantic Boulevard which runs for three miles from Route 7 to Church Road.
