VDOT Suspends Lane Closures Memorial Day Weekend
To keep traffic moving over the holiday weekend, the Virginia Department of Transportation will suspend construction and maintenance work on interstates and major roads from noon Friday, May 23 to noon Tuesday, May 26. There will be no lanes closures in the construction work zones at the Wilson Bridge or Springfield Interchange.
On Memorial Day, HOV restrictions will be lifted on Interstates 395, 95, 66 and the Dulles Toll Road.
The reversible HOV lanes on I-95/395 will operate in the southbound direction from 1 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Sunday, and in the northbound direction from 7 a.m. Sunday until 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 27th.
VDOT’s Smart Traffic Center (STC) in Arlington will be staffed around the clock to monitor road conditions with the help of a network of video cameras located along the busiest highway corridors. Through electronic message boards and highway advisory radio, the STC will be able to warn motorists about traffic back-ups, accidents and other adverse road conditions.
Before heading out the door, motorists can check road conditions at VDOT’s Web site, VirginiaDOT.org, or call the Highway helpline at 1-800-367-ROAD.
VDOT’s Safety Service Patrol will operate on major highways in Northern Virginia to provide basic automotive repair and first aid. They also respond to traffic accidents and help provide traffic control.
