Congestion Relief Coming to Capital Beltway and Dulles Toll Road Interchange

Congestion relief is coming to motorists who use the Beltway ramps to and from the Dulles Toll Road. Next month, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will begin construction to widen the ramp from eastbound Dulles Toll Road to I-495, and the ramp from southbound I-495 to westbound Dulles Toll Road. The ramps will be widened from one lane to two lanes. The widening will be completed in September 2004.

“This location is a hot spot for traffic backups,” said Tom Farley, Northern Virginia district administrator for VDOT. Widening these ramps will give both Beltway and Toll Road motorists some long overdue and much needed relief.”

A portion of the sound wall fronting the McLean Hamlets subdivision next to the Beltway will be reconstructed to improve sight distance for motorists.

VDOT will minimize construction related delays by doing most of the work outside of the travel lanes.

The Commonwealth Transportation Board awarded a $4.5 million contract for the job to New Construction, Inc. of Vienna.
