WEIGHT LIMIT REDUCED ON DICKERSON ROAD BRIDGE
3-ton posting will remain in effect until repairs can be completed

CULPEPER – The posted weight limit on the steel truss bridge on ?>Dickerson Road (Route 606) in Albemarle County has been reduced to three tons. The weight limit was reduced from the previous eight-ton limit after an inspection last week found additional deterioration of the bridge’s structural steel members.

Once the inspection was finished bridge engineers from the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Culpeper District analyzed the findings to determine the safe load capacity. They are now reviewing options to repair the bridge with the aim of restoring the previous eight-ton posted limit. It’s estimated that the repairs will take three to five months to complete.

The one-lane, steel truss, timber deck bridge, located between Route 29 and the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport, carries traffic over the North Fork Rivanna River. It was built in 1924.
