VDOT Request for Information (RFI)

Highway Signage

The Virginia Department of Transportation recognizes that the signs on its highways are aging and therefore is seeking information as to how a multi-year contract for sign inspection, maintenance and replacement project along certain highways might be managed.  VDOT is looking for a systematic approach to identifying signs on its expressway and freeway routes that have reached or are reaching the end of their service life or that are out of compliance with today’s standards; and to perform maintenance or replace signs as might be necessary.

To this end, VDOT is considering a multi-year contract for Regulatory, Warning and General Guide sign maintenance along the expressway/freeway facilities to include all Interstate Routes and select other high speed, limited access routes.  VDOT desires industry input suggesting methods to carry out the following:

  • Inventory
  • Condition assessment
  • Replace underperforming signs
  • Upgrade non-conforming signs
  • Maintain signs for a 5 year contract term with possible extensions
