Consultant's TIFF Requirements

Electronic Plan Submittal (Tiffs) for Consultants

  • Currently VDOT can only accept "Group 4" Tiff formatted files. TIFF is one of the most popular and widely used file formats for storing bit-mapped images. Group 4 is a compression type within the Tiff family.  It is the most powerful compression algorithm. Therefore we use it for documents that can stand alone.

  • There are four viable options available for the creation of Group 4 Tiffs that we can recommend to consultants. For information on any option other than reproduction please access the links below:

  • Design File naming convention for plan sheets is the project number_sheet number (example: 0123-025-102 c501_01.tif).

  • Design File naming convention for cross section sheets is the project number_xsheet number (example: 0123-025-102 c501_x001.tif).

  • Bridge File naming convention for plan sheets is the plan number and sheet number (example: 278-14_01.tif).

  • Files overall dimension should be 23 inches by 35 inches.

  • Road Plan .TIF images should be 200 DPI.

  • Notify the CADD Support Group that files are on the FTP site by either e-mail (COLNDHELPDESK@VDOT.Virginia.gov)
