Design Fixes and Updates

September 1, 2004

  • The following list of criteria has been updated. The changes to the criteria will make the “reconstruction template” compatible with the new design philosophy at VDOT. It now conforms to our design practice of saving viable parts of existing roadway and using them in road reconstruction:
    • Curb.x
    • Inside Shoulder.x
    • Median.x
    • Shoulder.x
    • Pavement.x
    • Local Shoulder.x
    • Resurfacing.x
    • Slopes.x
- Removeall of the "widening surfaces" redefinable variables. The widening surfaces were the same as new construction. Use new pavement surfaces and extensions redefinable variables for these areas.

- A "template separator" has been added to separate roadways and to cut off elements straight up or down.

- The "graphic tie" has been changed to tie no matter what, no restrictions. No redefinable variable is needed for this. Just the graphics.

- "Cross section labeling" has been changed to put the offset and elevation together on the same line above the point. The revised criteria has been added to the server.

  • The following criteria has been updated to reflect the changes to the "Slopes. x" variable:

- Now looks for existing right of way in survey file if "no proposed right of way" is found in design file.

- Fixes the "erosion control ditches" that were being drawn incorrectly. Program now plots in plan and profile views across areas that do not have erosion control ditches.

- Fixed the "slope rounding". The minimum distance from the back of ditch to the original slope tie has to be 5' or greater.

The revised criteria has been added to the server.

The following criteria have been updated to reflect the changes to the "Median. x" variable:

  • Fixed the problem of program looking to infinity for "raised median".  It not looks a certain distance (99') when using the median width.
  • Draws the "medians when Match Existing" is being used and no shapes exist.
  • Draws the correct "bottom depths for median barrier" according to the standards.  The revised criteria has been added to the server.

To access the new criteria, please delete your existing "shape cluster" and then add the "shape cluster" back. Reapply the correct "typical".  If your cross-sections are fine please DO NOT do the above process.

April 15, 2004

The criteria file has been updated to reflect the following changes to the "Resurfacing .x" variable:

  • Now looks for "curb or median strip" as an edge of pavement for design.
  • Changed the order so that program looks for the "side road match line" before looking for the edge of pavement.

The revised criteria has been added to the server.

April 15, 2004

The criteria file has been updated to reflect the following changes to the "Variables .x":

  • The file looks for the "saw cut line" in the design file rather than the work file..

The revised criteria has been added to the server.

April 13, 2004

The criteria file has been updated to reflect the following changes to the "Curbs. x" variable:

  • Fixes the problem of program not looking for "curbs as an edge of median";  therefore it did not draw the median.

The revised criteria has been added to the server.

April 13, 2004

A program change has been made to correct some "File Names" by changing the documentation write files:

  • Corrects some file names for the plan view elements looking in the .wri files.

February 3, 2004

The criteria file has been updated to correct the problem of not being able to draw a "Flat bottom ditch". You may now draw a flat bottom ditch on either side of a given station range or the entire length of the project.

The revised criteria has been added to the server.
