The Virginia Department of Transportation's (VDOT) Local Assistance Division develops policy and provides guidance for special funding programs and other programs that impact work performed by localities, and serves as a liaison to local governments.

The division also:

• Manages several special funding programs
• Manages urban system changes
• Manages the local assistance payments program
• Provides oversight for locally administered projects
• Coordinates the urban construction program

Recent Updates 

NOTE: On Friday June 29, 2012, Congress passed a two year transportation bill (MAP-21). This bill does include changes to the Transportation Enhancement Program (now Transportation Alternatives) that could affect both the FY13 allocations and future applications. We will post information to this website as we receive further interpretation of the legislation and its impact upon the program. Thank you for your patience.
