Recreational Access Checklist
Please note: The State Environmental Review Process (SERP) must be conducted and completed prior to initiating work on all state-funded projects.
Funding
- Access road construction
- Local facility may receive a maximum $250,000 unmatched allocation and up to $100,000 in matching state funds
- State facility may receive a maximum $400,000 unmatched allocation
- Bike lane construction
- Local facility may receive a maximum $60,000 unmatched allocation and up to $15,000 in matching state funds
- State facility may receive a maximum $75,000 unmatched allocation
Request and project information submittal
- Locality provides appropriate resolution request of governmental body and completed SERP acknowledgement form
- Master plan of development
- Project description
- Road and/or bike lane cost estimate
- Project administration responsibilities
- Formal designation by Department of Conservation and Recreation for a recreational formal designation area or by Department Historic Resources for a historic area
Local Assistance’s review and recommendation
- The Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) meeting agenda is finalized two weeks prior to its meeting.
CTB’S review
- The CTB meeting is usually held the third Thursday of each month.
Project Approval
- Agreement between the locality and VDOT
- May be necessary even if project is to be administered by VDOT
- Required if project is to be administered by locality
- Funds authorized - CTB-approved project allocation will be authorized for expenditure upon completion of contingencies in resolution.
