Safety …

It’s a familiar word to VDOT employees and long considered a priority in our work, but now it has a more urgent ring and renewed challenge to transportation and public safety professionals across the state.

Why? While we are reducing the number of injuries and deaths per million miles driven, the number of people killed or hurt each year is not declining by much.

Every year in Virginia, about 76,000 people are injured in motor vehicle crashes and about 900 are killed. Tragically, in many instances those losses are preventable.
